I agree that it should not be embellished and turned into an opera but the words screwed up I can forgive. She performed it at the NBA finals and got it right. Maybe it was just nerves or something, 100 million + people watching can shake even an experienced performer.

Francis Scott Key turned over in his grave before the first chorus.
That girl should be forever banned from singing anything!

A terrible job, when she screwed up the lyrics; my wife and I just looked at each other in disbelief. Then she screeched her way through the rest of the anthem doing a worse job than Roseanne Barr ever did!!

Absolutely impossible to do a worse job than Roseanne, in my opinion. At least Christine Aquilar wasn't trying to be disrespectful.

Are you right WOC, or was she performing merely to boost her career rather than giving the anthem the respect it deserves.
To me, that is being disrespectful. And, if it was unintentional; you could have fooled me.
I vote for sending her straight to JD's room for punishment!!

That may be the truth.

That's a very high standard to hold people to. I believe it places anyone who is paid to sing in the disrespect category.

To me, Christina Aguilera does not need a career boost. She's already pretty big. What she needs is a swift kick in the crotch.
Her disrespectful rendition of the anthem was all about her ego. She thinks she's bigger than the anthem. She's not.
I blame Jerry Jones ultimately. I have to believe he could have had some influence over who sang the anthem (even over FOX). How about George Strait, who opened the new stadium? You know he would do it right.
But, then again, I blame Jerry Jones for a lot of things.
