Default I carry a 45

I carry a 45 because most people are not worth shooting twice.

Only kidding. Maybe.

I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it!

Those freaking midget clowns give me the creeps!

I've never been asked why I carry, I expect it's due to the fact that most of those close to me understand my reasons and those not close to me have no idea that I carry. If asked I would consider the question to be none of there business. I might respond by asking "whats the PIN number for your ATM card". It's personal information and none of your business.

"Why don't you?"

I've had this discussion several times over the years, and the most committed response was because of karma. That carrying a gun begets attacks.
Another told me that if someone shot her and her kids, it was God's plan/fault.
I carry because it is the law of the land, and even if it wasn't, I still would.

Default I have been a victim

I carry everyday because on Feb 3 2009 my nephew who my wife and I had custody of, raised and loved as our son was brutally and savagely murdered. He was 21 years old and just returned from the US Army. His body was found a week later stabbed 50+ times and buried in the snow.

His murdered opened my eyes that I need to take responsibility for my and my family's safety.

Reality check, most criminals are opportunistic, not long term planners. They look for people in situations where they are either isolated, unaware of their surroundings or ideally, both. I support our law enforcement officers who deal with violent crime and criminals on a daily basis. HOWEVER, the problem is that there are more predatory bad guys in this world than there are police. The police are not likely to be present at the time your home is broken into, or you are assaulted, robbed, threatened with grave bodily harm or murdered like my nephew. Police generally arrive at a crime scene after the criminals are long gone and the devastation to citizen victims is already done. It is foolish indeed to believe that that our civil governments have the ability to protect us from the sub human predators of our society.

I do not have any desire to use the gun on anyone I do not want to shoot anyone, and pray that I never have to pull it from its holster for any reason. But I will do so before I burry another one of my children or my wife!
