The metric system is quite handy in the laboratory, inter-conversion of units and the like, it is also based on the properties of water. Which is very helpful.

However, it is not as easy to use in real life. What is a half of a half? .25???
Quarter is easier and faster.

Most rural road are set up on mile grids.

I don't refer to either as a spanner. They are wrenches or crecent wrenches when I'm asking someone for them or in rare cases "gimme the battery arcer".

Correct, profession can be a huge factor, a seamstress may do great with stitches per inch but a doctor really better know their CC'c and MM's. Luckily, my forte is electronics and the rules and measures being relatively new are pretty universal across the spectrum. E=IR means the same in Japan as it does in New York and India. That doesnt make it easy to understand, just easier not to translate!

Those that dont speak the language should never translate, you should see some of the older Service manuals out of Japan and Korea, they butchered the English language terribly, "If Power Suppry isa broked, you mesure DC points A and D for 12 V, and reprace bada compon". Really, some of them were that bad. I learned how to pick out the important stuff- Power Supply, 12 Volts DC from A to D...

6600 feet, or 2200 yards and one hell of a shot if you hit your target.
None of my rifles have that kind of elevation...

Agree with the professional comment completely!

Electric/electronics are by default metric, makes life easy. I have seen some
'chine' that are that bad...

Every day life the old Imperial/SAE systems are better, few tools better
correlation to needs and applications. It was designed/built around needs.

Metric system was build around theory and the decade/decimal system, not
applications and needs.

Neither are perfect.

I had to back to the OP to see what this thread was about.

Not that I mind a thread wandering a little of topic. But after seeing Axxe and other's be the brunt of foreign powers (and not so powerful), I had to check again.

Seattle's law on Marijuana (Drug) is based on the ounce.

Since the premise of this thread is flawed, so are the commies and socialists. SO THERE!

Yes, it was designed by Math super bean counters that saw things more as units and parts of units than specific items. Its easy to talk about things at a blackboard but a bit tougher to use those scales and measures in real life. Makes more sense to tell your worker you need a bundle of shingles on the roof instead of 22 shingles and half a bundle is pretty easy to understand as well.

Carpenters and other trades in America will be the last to convert and only then when we stop making homegrown tradesmen (thats closer than we think). When it comes down to it, if you give progressives an inch, they will take a mile (Ha, Ha)!

or maybe if we give them a centimeter, they will take a kilometer!
