What I would say to Alex is:

"There is no right to kill in the Constitution. Not with guns, knives, or what have you. What the Second Amendment gives us the right to do is to bear arms. That is all. Not to kill, not to commit murder, not to rob a bank. We have the right to use a gun to defend from being killed, from being murdered and from being robbed. It also gives us the right to rise up and overthrow a tyrannical government using firearms if, God forbid, the need should arise."

What I would say to Maher when he said the part about the government having nukes and the Marine Corps is

"So, Bill. You think that because the government has nukes and the Marines (setting aside the fact that in Egypt the military backed the people, but I digress) that the government should further widen the gap by taking away the right to bear arms by removing the Second Amendment form the Constitution? That is the stupidest position I have ever heard. Just because you would not be willing to stand up against Goliath with a slingshot, or the United States Government with a firearm, doesn't mean that everybody shares that defeatist attitude."
