Exactly, remember laser tag?

Precisely the reason airsoft is illegal here, WDB. But the above scenario is not the one commonly described, rather that criminals will use 'realistic-looking' guns to commit crime.

Either way, as you say the cops get to have to decide...and in a damn hurry.

I thought airsoft might be pretty fun. Some of the guns are pretty cool looking and the specs on some are not that bad at all. You want to spend the money you can get a really nice one.

Maybe it is just me but I have a very big dislike of weapons of any kind being pointed at me and fired.

A primary difference between airsoft firearms and BB guns is that airsoft uses 6mm or 8mm plastic pellets and have muzzle velocities of typically less than 600 feet per second (FPS), which is generally considered safe when used in a controlled environment, while BB guns utilize metal ammunition and shoot at higher velocities (400-1200+ FPS), making them unsuitable for gaming and training purposes. Another distinguishing factor between BB guns and airsoft guns is that the latter generally uses hop-up (back-spin on the BB) to increase their effective range, since the lower muzzle velocity of these guns shortens their shooting distance.

Not according to this^. But then I wouldn't know personally.

We have 3 airsoft "guns" just for giggles and grins. 2 "pistols" (a S & W 9mm and a Steyr GB) and 1 "rifle" (a Steyr Aug). When put side by side with the "real" versions of each, except for the "red tips," you cannot tell the difference without actually handling the "weapon."
