Default Ain't life strange .....!

About 1:33 AM last nite , I got some mega cramps in my calves ! Curled my toes on both feet something terrible , take your breath away ?
I forced my toes straight on both feet , through on some jeans , hikeing boots and figured I'd take a little walk , walk off the cramping !

Ok , about 2:00 AM down some dark back roads and feeling a little better . I hear a car in the distance so I turn my flashlight on so's I don't get runned over . The first guy stops and asks if I need a ride ! "No sir but thanks for stopping " .
15 minutes later , another car stops and asks if I need help ? " well no , I was fine but thanks for asking " .....!

It's now 3:30 and the cramps are gone and I'm headed home .. About a half mile from home , another couple stops and offers help ! Again , "thanks for asking but I'm fine and almost home but thank you anyhow " .....!.

I have been broke down before and watched cars motor on by when I needed help but nobody no way stopped ....!

Who would-a thunk........

I like picking up hitchhikers, they usually have good stories, the last guy I picked up while in WV was headed for Florida, guy before that just broke up with his girlfriend and needed a pack of smokes from the store a couple miles away.

Most people are great people. I offer help but I will only call for help for them. Not letting a stranger into my car and usually not getting out.

Yeah, the world we live in now. I remember in 1960, I lived about 10 miles from the beach in Lake Worth. I was 6 yrs old, hitch hiking to the beach everyday. Only had 1 weirdo, said he was preacher, but I made it clear I'd be too much trouble so he let me out. Dirt poor orphan, but I had a thumb, swim suit, t shirt, and towel, no shoes.

Yes I agree with Winds. I will always offer to contact someone for them or allow them to use my phone to call for help. I must be honest several times I have taken a father and family to the nearest truck stop or business or a mother with a couple of children since they have no business being stranded alone on the highway.
As stated things have changed! But there are good folks out there as mentioned. Unfortunately there are predators that travel our roads everyday just looking for the defenseless person/s having problems.

I remember my Uncle Bill who was in the Navy in Florida and would hitch hike to Indiana when he got leave! He told me the story on being picked up several times by a moonshine runner out of South Georgia. The guy told him that if and when he got leave if Uncle Bill could get to a certain location in Georgia, that the runner would come through on a certain day and time and by the location about every week. And if Uncle Bill could be there he would pick him up and run him as far North as Knoxville TN. But Uncle Bill said not once did he ever have any trouble getting rides to Pendleton, Indiana! Different times these days!

And there are predators who work in pairs or groups. They feign car trouble or physical trouble then jump the person who stops to help. I don't ever want to fall victim to anyone.

I've only picked someone up twice. One was a teenaged girl who had Downs syndrome and had fallen from her bike. I knew where she lived in the neighborhood, as it was just down from a friends house. The chain had slipped on the bike and it was bound too tight for my to work loose without taking the rear wheel off or possibly doing more damage. So I put the bike in the car and took her home.

The other was a young woman walking down the side of the street to my neighborhood in GA. She was only wearing one shoo and had a torn shirt sleeve. I asked if she was ok and if she needed medical attention. She said she just needed a ride home, because she and her boyfriend got in an argument and he pulled over and shoved her out of the car.

Like the previous posters said, times have changed! In the late 60's I thumbed to high school everyday and was always picked up. My brother thumbed to Cal. and back twice in a 4 yr. period. Never any problems.

Our little corner of the world is pretty safe, however most people's perception has been ruined by reports of evil from up noth and out west and especially notheast etc.
Everyone is now a bit paranoid that mad clown or rapist, or drug cartel type is behind every bush.
I and no one else likes it one bit. Turn CNN off.
In the fifties and sixties I walked everywhee, as a kid, to the store with rifle under arm, in the sticks of tn, or friends a mile or two up the road.
I waled to school, in the city, at 6 over a mile. ot to knwo the Polcieman controlling the light at the crosswalk well. He didn't want to compare notes on, firearms with a six year old that ha his own rifle, even, though.
I walked to the school most days ins summer to play on the playground equipment, that we don't see anymore, or play ball with the guys from around the area,
Now days the Libs will call the Law if a ten year old is playing in the field by himself, or is at the toy store alone.
The Libs like cripples apparently and are doing everything posssible to cripple Americans so they can control us.
Wife walks to the mail box, a qtr mile now, with the dog, consdering requesting her to carry her sidearm. Never can tell when a mad clown might pop out of the woods.
Grand Ma told me to stay out of the woods, the Indians would get me. Heck we were the Indians. Maybe she should be on the out look for us too.
I wonder how I can put a rifle rack on the lawn mower?
