A friend sent this. There are a couple of basic safety rules that are broken. The main one nearly kills two guys.

Take length of rope, chain, cable or whatever. DOUBLE that length. If you are not actively involved in the recovery, stay THAT far away from the vehicles.
We used to teach field recovery of armored vehicles- using one or two to recover the third. Once hooked up, before you take a strain, get INSIDE and CLOSE and lock the hatches.
That gent caught a bumper, and was damned lucky. You should see what 1/2 in wire rope can do when it snaps under load. Get in the way of that and they can bury you in two coffins.

KYBoater can probably attest to this. When a ship line snaps, it sounds like a gunshot. Those lines WILL cut men in half....

I had to look twice but the bumper goes between the two guys. they are damned lucky as it probably would have killed them had it made contact.
1) The guy pushing the disabled Jeep- stupid, especially in the water like that where you can't see the footing.
2) the strap/rope should have a couple of blankets or jackets draped over it so that they dampen the whip of th erope when it breaks or cuts loose (the guy on the left served this function).
3) Never attach your recovery anchors to the stock bumper, attach them to the frame. I have seen people attach the yank-strap to a hitch ball, and then the hitch ball pops off and shot through the windshield of the stuck truck. Would have killed the guy in the driver's seat has it struck him.
