Louisville Slugger for me, rather than .17 hmr!

Seeing how people on drugs in Iraq/Afghanistan weren't stopped but multiple shots in the torso of 5.56 the 17hmr would probably just tickle them. If they're really crazy though it guess it wouldn't matter because they'd brush anything off. Still for other scenarios I'd want more stopping power for peace of mind if nothing else. I would also rule out a bolt gun of any caliber for home defense. If you miss that first shot you might as well pretend it's a Louisville slugger cause I don't think you're going to have a chance to get a second shot off.

So I guess I'm just echoing the majority. And really the biggest issue is that it's a bolt gun. If you were really compelled to get a 17hmr because of the availability of ammo during shortages I would at least get a semi auto or a revolver.

I like the shotgun idea better though. Or a hi point. I've never shot or owned one but from what I hear they have great customer service and they're reliable. Just really ugly. Put a bag over it so you don't have to look at it.
