In the State of Arkansas, can I buy a handgun at 18?
The Law, as does in many other states, states that you must be 21 in order to buy a handgun from a licensed dealer, but makes no mention from private transactions. It does, however, say that in order to purchase a gun (from a licensed dealer or not), you must be 18. So my thinking, as is many people's, is that you only have to be 18 in order to have a transfer of ownership if done privately. What d'y'all think?

You should check with your local laws. I am not from your state but am pretty sure you can't have a handgun until you are 21. Again check your local laws.

Well, that's all the local laws say lol. They say it's legal to own a gun only if you're 18 and they say you can buy from a licensed handgun dealer at 21. They don't mention private handgun transactions at 18yrs of age.

My undersatanding is the same as mountainman13, most states you can not own a handgun if you are under 21. We have had our friends/family shoot handguns with us on our property that were under 21, but they were with the owner of the handgun. Definatly check local laws.. i will not sell a handgun to anyone under 21.

You can in MS, at your house or in your car or your business (must be 18+).
I would check with a local.

Just to clarify I don't consider that carrying. I believe the law is the same in your state but you need to verify.

This site appears to agree with you on the "18 for private purchase" deal (which is the minimum required by ATF, i believe).

minors can legally possess a handgun, they just cannot purchase one or "own" one. If a parent buys a gun for their child that is legal.

Well, as I assume y'all imagine, Arkansas is very lenient (although it should be more lenient) on guns. I'm 17 and went to the firing range with my .40 S&W the other day and all I had to do was sign a waiver (didn't even need my parents to sign).
