Pretty neat. My Dad was in Europe in WWII. He had a great respect for the Germans. Said no "matter how you looked at it those bastards could fight". ..His words...

That is not true. My wife learned about the holocaust in school. Both my 19 yo son and 13 yo old daughter studied the holocaust in school. Yearly, film and documentaries on the holocaust are seen on TV. I have seen my German friends cry watching these shows. If the history is being wiped out, why is the camps still there to visit? Why are there field trips to go to the camps?

To publicly deny the holocaust is taboo and unlawful. It is against the law to have literature and other media that denies the holocaust, and supports Nazism. The majority of such material comes from the US by the way. Sometimes you hear of an American being arrested. There has been areas of Eastern Germany that has Neo Nazis, but the Gov tries to crack down on the. (By the way many west Germans wish that East Germany was never unified! The USSR really messed the people up. ) There are small groups of Nazis in my area, but the dozen is outnumbered by everybody else during protests. I would be out there too, but we have standing orders to never get involved in demonstrations.

Its hard to know if you havent seen it or been there. Yes, the Germans fought valiantly and courageously but they crossed lines that cannot be uncrossed even with time passing. That said, Im 50% Kraut and proud of the rich history of what has been a very peacefull country more than its even been a tyrant.

Your correct Jag, there are way more Americans sporting swastikas, skinheads and begging for the 4th Reich to rise out of the ashes of Auschwitz, Treblinka and Birkenau than you will find in all of Europe's underground hate groups combined. Our Citizens know not what they are asking for, we should be ashamed of ourselves for being so naive as to think it couldnt happen again and in our lifetime if we ever forget to remember the evil it befell so many times before.

Most folks in the USA have only read about it. I saw what you said Jager, nobody wore WW2 as a badge of honor that I saw while I lived there almost 2 years. Germany has never forgotten, they couldn't if they wanted to. That clip clearly illuminated the timeless and profound effect the Nazi's had on Europe, the Eastern Block and the entire world as a whole!

They unlike we in the USA have decided they cant fix what they personally didnt break as zygotes, babies and grand-kids of the Shamed and Damned. Our civil war was our badge of shame, imagine purchasing the entirety of a human being today and dictating their every breath, thats just unimaginable today in the USA but elsewhere its still the norm.

The sins of our fathers arent even our fathers anymore, they are not to be forgotten but we need to stop considering them genetic links to current occupants of these lands we speak of.

That is up to you, me and the rest of the population. The holocaust was allowed to happen because only a few stood up to the Nazis in Germany. Remember the Serbian war was also based on genocide. That is a very recent conflict. History does repeat because people forget or do not care. The Germans suffer an extreme blood guilt. Reparations are still paid. The German youth are considered guilty for the sins of their grandparents. Germans do remember. The horrors of the past is still present at memorials and the camps. I think the reminders are necessary for Germany, and all the world. Why.....because we can declare.......never again.

Too bad Germany has destroyed so many National Socialist buildings. While they do preserve reminders of the crimes of the Nazis, they have destroyed most building and monuments related to the party, presumably to prevent it from rising again or creating sites for party "pilgrims". But part of history is studying how the party came to be and operated and how so many people became duped. I hear of a few educational markers going up and Hitlers face is on one in Berlin for the first time. But it is a bit late as most traces of National Socialism are gone.
