Encampments of Allied and Axis troops in the Midway Village woods and realistic skirmishes integrated in the historic village
Pacific Theater battles in the woods with soldiers dressed as U.S. Marines and Japanese infantry
German cavalry scenes
Soldiers' base camps filled with period vehicles, tents and artifacts
Shop for World War II memorabilia from numerous vendors
Expanded food service including Burritt's Meat Products of Rockford
A 1940s era USO-style swing dance 7 pm, Saturday at Veterans Memorial Hall. Dance to the sounds of Moonlight Jazz Orchestra.
The largest World War II era re-enactment in the United States with over 1,000 uniformed re-enactors from 40 states representing soldiers from the United States, Great Britain, France, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Japan, Italy and Germany along with 70 to 80 vintage tanks, halftracks and other 1940s era military vehicles!
While I appreciate the historical aspects of these types of displays, and I love good fireworks, I suspect that the people attending will actually be viewing a parody of WWII life. Real WWII life would include people with real intestines blown out and screaming themselves to death, or maybe folks being driven to the crematoriums. Reenactments are all glory and no gore, nothing like real war.
Gee, ya think?
I guess I should just sell my old war rifles since I can't go running through beaches and fields shooting Axis forces, sniping Nazi's, or doing some ethnic cleansing in Yugoslavia. It's just a parody shooting paper from 100, 200 and 600 yards.
Its in my backyard so I have been there frequently. I am going to try and make it again this year, definetly a good show though.
