What would the opinions of British, Canadian, Austrailian, or other Allied soldiers be? Same for Axis soldiers.

.303 SMLE,10 shot mag can be reloaded any time compared to the Garand, can use the Vickers ammo or the Bren gun ammo as well, great rate of fire being voted as THE best battlefield rifle on the Discovery Channel's best battlefield rifles of WW2 ahead of the Kar 98 because it only had a 5 shot mag.

The SMLE also came in a Jungle Carbine version with the same 10 shot mag and a bit shorter in length but it could still drop a enemy soldier at 600yds.

Lets face it, WW2 was fought with every weapon that people could muster including the Liberator and probably some old muskets that sat in the dust for decades before. If your gun was out of ammo, grab whatever is on the field around you and keep fighting. Half the globe was somehow involved and it was likely the greatest hodge podge assembly of firearms on battlefields ever imagined.

It's an interesting debate. I'm sure that the Poles, the Belgians, and the French might have had some interesting rifles too. But, once they fell to the blitzkrieg, they weren't much use.

WTF are you talking about. They are neat little guns and served a role but in no way were they the millitary long gun of the future. Go back to spearing wolves.

definitely not the M1 carbine. An old friend told me he met up with a Japanese Royal Marine on mountain pass and emptied a full mag. Into him,in order to kill him ,not a good thing to have to do.

M1 Garand hands down...in my humble opinion.

The M1 carbine was pretty useless as a battle rifle. The M1 carbine would have served the women defending London better than soldiers on the battlefield. There was a time when every store in town had a barrel full of carbines and garrands dirt cheap. No one wanted them. The 30 cal is equal to a pistol caliber carbine and hunting ammo doesn't run well in the 30/06 garrand.

I think it's pretty clear nearly everyone thinks the Garand was the best, including myself. An interesting topic would be what was the second best. I think the Enfield would narrowly beat the '03 Springfield because of its magazine capacity.

Second best I'd say the Enfield or hell even a mosin. I'm gonna catch flack for saying the mosin in the same sentence as the Enfield....but hey, it worked for Russia and doubles as a nice club. Yes, I do own one.
