Sniper03 nailed the quiz exactly as it was formulated. His answer checks out. The sawed off shotguns were old Savages.

The OP, however, had another murder case in mind - that of a historic figure. Care to try again?

The murder was driven by politics more than anything else. In common with the JFK assassination, conspiracy theories keep cropping up to this day.

The murder was reported widely, throughout the world. Nine out of 10 Members know the victim's name. Come on you can do it!

One of the pistols used to kill Rasputin was a 1907 Savage.
That is a nice looking 1915 Savage.
