Criteria for used guns

So what do you look for when you are buying a used gun? I know when a gun looks good but it is harder to tell if it actually is good. Especially with revolvers I find, but maybe I don't know what I am talking about just racking a slide doesn't make me feel like I know how good a partivular gun is

The first things I look for it to insure it has a firing pin and the trigger operates correctly. If the gun is a revolver then I check the ratchet gears and cylinder alignment to the barrel. If the gun is a semi-auto I check the slide to see of its dragging and if there is excess wear anywhere on the slide. I then inspect the bore and rifling for scratches. Finally, I check the serial numbers.
