Just a short time ago I asked http://www.firearmstalk.com/forums/f...snubbie-31028/

Well, I decided on the S&W 629 Talo edition with a 3" barrel and I made a good choice. I was worried that the recoil was going to be extreme but its actually not bad. I shot it today, a 150 rounds worth the first 130 all double action. I figure in a self-defense situation I won't be cocking a hammer.

Attachment 18803

First I fired 50 rounds of 44 Magnum Magtech 240gr. SJSP and the recoil was not that bad at all, color me surprised. Then I went through 50 rounds of 200gr. 44 SPL CCI Blazer (very very mild). Then I shot 30 rounds of the carry load I pick for this gun, Fiocchi Extrema 240 Hornady XTP hollow points. Honestly, I could not tell the difference between these and the Magtech loads. Finally, just for stupidity sake I shot 20rds or Corbon 300gr. penetrator loads. Those were quite snappy, but still managable in SA.

The group below is the Fiocchi Extrema loads at 10 yards (sorry for the cell pic). I threw two shots away.

Ive been needing to write this review for a while now, just been putting it off. Along about February of this year my smith started on my .260 rem precision rifle based on a rem 700 short action, and soon thereafter i started out on an research mission to find quality glass to go on top of it. ( http://www.firearmstalk.com/forums/f...project-22908/ )

After alot of help from members here i decided on the on the IOR Valdada 3-18X40 First Focal Plane scope with the MP-8 reticule. I got my rifle back sometime in July, and within 2 weeks i placed an order for my scope with Scott at Liberty Optics, Scott is awesome to deal with, and i highly recommend him and his company.

A few days later i had my new IOR, and my first impression was "dam this thing is heavy duty" I never realized just hoe big a 35mm main tube actually was.

I really like this scope for alot of reasons, first off the clarity of the glass is a 10 its the best ive ever looked through, even in lower light conditions.

This scope is a First Focal Plane scope (the mill hash marks can be used to range a target at any magnification) The MP-8 Dot reticule has a new take on the standard Mill Dot reticule, it doesn't have dots, it has hash marks that make precise measurements much easier. The reticule and the adjustments are both in Mils, so there is no math involved in impact correction, or lead/holdover. The elevation knob also has 10mils per revolution, so there is no getting lost when making long range adjustments.

The advertised adjustment for this scope was 22 mil elevation, and mine comes in at about 20 so that is slightly disappointing, but still more than enough to get out to 1k with a 20 moa base.

Im sure i forgot something important.

Of course, we have to take a stance that is neither fan nor hater to start the project, so as such, I propose that we stick to what is commonly referred to as “a problem” with the platform.

· If you can’t agree that there are reasons the weapon hasn’t been openly adopted by everyone and feel that there are no problems with the platform, than this probably isn’t the thread for you.
· We have to accept that some criticism is warranted, while some is just flat out hater driven dribble. We need to be able to discuss this and we have to be able to show facts that are in common knowledge.
· No one here wants to hear about a guy you used to shoot with, who’s brother has a Glock that ran 20,000 rounds and never had to be cleaned. Do you have a picture? No? Then leave that part out. If you have the weapon, great, but no outrageous claims that can’t be substaniated.
· In addition, no one wants to hear about the time a friend of yours was at the range and a guy three booths down put his first reload into a brand new Glock and the thing blew up killing 2 and injuring seven other shooters and the range dog. You have pictures and a news story link, great, let’s see it. Otherwise, keep the BS out.

OUR GOAL:

This is a new breed of Glock: We are going to take a look at the "negatives", or “perceived negatives” and we are going to discuss them, pros & cons, just like a real R&D Team, but one working on producing the weapon that will answer the haters and still keep the fans happy.

In our attempt to build our FTF Edition, I would ask that we keep this in the REAL world, with real products. While I am not going to rush out and fund the first FTF Edition Glock, this thread might be used for someone doing research on building up their own. As such, please post links to products that are real and being sold to civilians. Cool?

We can’t go creating some $2000-$2500 custom Glock. Anyone spending that kind of money is probably going to be looking at custom guns and not getting a factory gun and changing a part or two.

First up we must discuss the ergonomics. Much of what is initially said in these threads is that the weapon doesn’t “feel right” or “fit” the poster’s hand. Having shot several over the years, and having larger hands, I can say that I don’t have a problem dropping the magazine, but I do have a problem with the pistol grip being larger at the bottom than at the top.

Now, since the bore axis is slightly lower and out of 'normal' alingment than is seen on other pistols, this isn’t considered a common trend in handguns that are sold in the US. As such, this makes the Glock more unique and can be expressed as “not right” because most people/shooters have shot other weapons in their past and have a certain expectation of how it “should feel”. *see graphic below*

Now, those that love the platform can say “get used to it” or “it fits me just fine” and the haters can say “it’s all wrong” and it “makes no sense” – but suffice to say, it’s plain different and if the weapon doesn’t feel right, people aren’t going to practice with it, making them a liability more than an asset to you and yours should the need arise. Agreed?

So, how do we handle ergonomics on the pistol to make it more “across the board” user friendly?

How about Robar and their offerings for Glock frames/modifications?

http://www.robarguns.com/glock.htm

Or their specialized, and customized backstrap, replacement frame?

http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=24303/Product/ALL_METAL_FRAMES_for_GLOCK_reg_

Discuss, but keep it civil and stick to the facts.

This is the peak of my shooting career. The brake on this rifle tamed the recoil to be less than my 270. MAN!....I am still smiling. I should have taken a picture of the target, I drilled the bullseye at 100 yards with the first round and grouped the rest within 1 inch. I was pulling the others due to being a little giddy!!!
EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE ONE!!
Olympia, 2-war naval veteran, battles for survival

By JOANN LOVIGLIO, Associated Press Writer Joann Loviglio, Associated Press Writer – Mon Sep 6, 6:07 am ET

PHILADELPHIA – The USS Olympia, a one-of-a-kind steel cruiser that returned home to a hero's welcome after a history-changing victory in the Spanish-American War, is a proud veteran fighting what may be its final battle.

Time and tides are conspiring to condemn the weathered old warrior to a fate two wars failed to inflict. Without a major refurbishment to its aging steel skin, the Olympia either will sink at its moorings on the Delaware River, be sold for scrap, or be scuttled for an artificial reef just off Cape May, N.J., about 90 miles south.

The 5,500-ton Olympia's caretakers monitor every inch of its deteriorating lower hull and deck, already covered with hundreds of patches. Independent inspectors have concluded that the ship could decay to a point beyond saving within a few years if nothing is done.

"It's an absolute national disgrace. It's an appalling situation," said naval historian Lawrence Burr, author of a book on Olympia. "She is a national symbol, and she marks critical points in time both in America's development as a country and the Navy's emergence as a global power."

Olympia, which gets about 90,000 visitors annually, closes to the public Nov. 22 to await its fate. Visitors to the museum pay up to $12, which includes the chance to board the warship.

Since taking stewardship of the floating museum from a cash-strapped nonprofit in 1996, the Independence Seaport Museum has spent $5.5 million on repairs, inspections and maintenance. But it can neither afford the $10 million to dredge the marina, tow the ship to dry-dock and restore it to fighting trim, nor the $10 million to establish an endowment to care for it in perpetuity.

"She's an icon," said Jeffrey S. Nilsson, executive director of the Historic Naval Ships Association in Smithfield, Va. "She's worthy of being saved."

Efforts to secure private or public funding have been unsuccessful, a stark reminder of recessionary times. Museum officials are reluctantly mulling whether to scrap the National Historic Landmark, said to be the world's oldest steel warship still afloat, or have the Navy sink it off the coast of Cape May.

The 344-foot-long protected cruiser ideally should have been dry-docked every 20 years for maintenance. Instead it has been dutifully bobbing — and quietly wasting away — in the Delaware since 1945 without a break from the wind and waves.

The waterline is marked with scores of patches, and sections of the mazelike lower hull are so corroded that sunlight shines through. Above deck, water sneaks past the concrete and rubberized surface layers, past the rotting fir deck underneath, and onto the handsomely appointed officers' quarters below.

"She generally looks good for her age, but her expensive pre-existing conditions make it daunting," said Jesse Lebovics, longtime caretaker of Olympia. "We're still hoping someone will step up. We're hoping for an 11th-hour reprieve."

Two local nonprofits — Friends of the Cruiser Olympia and The Cruiser Olympia Historical Society — are striving to drum up money, manpower and publicity from other historic preservation groups, veterans organizations and corporate sponsors.

"We don't want to see the ship reefed and the museum doesn't either," said Jay Richman, president of Friends of the Cruiser Olympia. "We're optimistic that a bunch of small groups working together for a common cause can save the ship."

Olympia steamed out of San Francisco in 1892 and served most notably as flagship of the Asiatic Squadron in the Spanish-American War.

Its vertical reciprocating engines, refrigeration system and hydraulic steering previewed the technological advances to come; its vestigial sails and oak-paneled, parlor-like officers' quarters marked the passing Victorian era.

From Olympia's bridge on May 1, 1898, during the Battle of Manila Bay in the Phillippines, Commodore George Dewey uttered the famous command: "You may fire when you are ready, Gridley." The Spanish fleet was decimated, making Dewey — and the Olympia — national heroes.

In a letter home after the victorious battle, Capt. Charles Gridley wrote: "We did not lose a man in our whole fleet, and had only six wounded, and none of them seriously. ... The Olympia was struck seven or eight times, but only slightly injured, hardly worth speaking of."

The ship later was active in the Atlantic, Caribbean and Mediterranean, served as a Naval Academy training vessel, and took part in the 1918 Allied landing at Murmansk during the Russian Civil War.

Its final mission was bringing home the body of World War I's Unknown Soldier from France in 1921. The vessel was decommissioned in 1922 and was largely forgotten until it was nearly scrapped in the 1950s — and local citizens rallied with donations and labor to bring it back from the brink.

Olympia opened as a museum in 1958 but funding woes and threats of sale or scrap have been part of its history ever since. The Seaport Museum itself has weathered its own share of storms, most recently in 2008, when a former president of the organization was convicted of bilking the institution of more than $1 million.

Meanwhile, two other beleaguered vessels nearby are similarly awaiting saviors: the USS New Jersey battleship across the river in New Jersey and the historic 1950s cruise ship SS United States three miles downriver.

"There's a lot of need out there, and the economy makes it worse ... but we really can't wait," Lebovics said.

I started shooting IDPA about a year ago with a Glock 17. After a short time I purchased an M&P Pro 9mm. I thought I would never sell or stop shoot this gun. There were times I shot the M&P very well and others I times I couldn't hit anything. Two weeks ago I decided to sell my M&P Pro and purchase a Glock 34. In the short time I have been shooting this is the best move I have ever made. I have shot 3 IDPA matches since I purchased the Glock 34 and have shot well above my classification each time. It points, shoots, and is on target much better than my M&P Pro ever was. I have a Wilson Combat CQB, two Kimbers, and 3 Glocks and the Glock 34 is the best handgun I own. I love to shoot this gun. How do you all feel about your Glock 34.

The end of 2008, I bought my first pistol. A Springfield Armory 40 cal XD. Paid a little over $400 for it. At that time, I paid little attention to gun rights advocacy and gun rights groups. I knew i needed a CPL, but I thought it was to carry a gun period. I did not know about open carry. I really did not know of the 2nd amendment, I heard of it, but it was of little consequence to me. I did not even know that our state constitution here in Michigan, guaranteed me the right to own and bear arms.

Well, fast forward a few months to February 21, 2009. I had to run an errand to the liquor store. It was almost midnight. I got in my car and drove up to the liquor store. I wasnt even buying liquor, I had a sweet tooth and went to find something to snack on. I pulled up to the liquor store, and I grabbed my gun and put it into my pocket. I figured i'll be in and out. This particular store was located in a bad area by the way which is why I had brought my gun along. As I went in the store, a black car pulled up behind my car and four guys got out. When they came into the store, I automatically knew they were undercover cops. I continued going in about my business because I didnt want to look suspicious. I noticed one walked towards the door like he was trying to block the exit. It looked like they were trying to circle me. Then one yelled at me "Put your hands on your goddamn head!" I did as I was told. I was cuffed and put into their car. While I was in the car, they took my driver license and started filling out some papers. One officer even seemed sympathetic, he said "Look you may not be a bad guy and I know this is a rough area, but you cant be walking around with a gun without a CPL". He may have been well intentioned, but what he really was saying was that I cant have a pistol under my shirt without permission from Lansing (our state capitol).

My car was impounded, I was taken to jail. A few days later, I was arraigned. The judge that arraigned me seemed angry at me. His name was Steve Lockhart. He accused me of jepeordizing the safety of the citizens of Detroit and made it quite clear that I should not have had a gun on me at all (since he's a judge, I maybe right in assuming he went to law school. That day where they talked about that pesky 2nd amendment, he may have been out sick). He set my bond and ordered me tethered when I was released and ordered that I attend a gun violence class at 36th district court in downtown Detroit. My parents posted my bond and I went home. I didnt like my court appointed attorney so I hired a private one, which cost $2500 dollars. Even my attorney didnt think I should've had a weapon (do they even mention the 2nd amendment in law school any more!!!).

My lawyer was able to get the felony charge dropped down to a misdemeanor charge of failing to register a pistol. At that time I sincerely felt I did something wrong. And then I started to read. Thanks to the internet, I came across many gun advocacy groups and sites such as this. I read the 2nd amendment and how it says that the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. I read the Michigan constitution and how it says "Every person has a right to keep and bear arms for the defense of himself and the state." I realized that I wasn't the one in the wrong, but Lansing was the one in the wrong! By requiring me to get government permission from Lansing (getting a CPL) to carry a pistol that I bought with my own money under my shirt they were infringing on my second amendment rights!

In that gun violence class, there was a 70 y/o man that was a jewelry store owner. He had had a CPL, but forgot to renew it when it expired. He was facing the same charge I was. He didn't renew his "right" with the state.

So here are some bullet points:

-I was arrested for bearing arms w/o govt permission.
-I was put in jail for bearing arms w/o govt permission
-My car was impounded for bearing arms w/o govt permission
-I had to spend $2500 on a lawyer for bearing arms w/o govt permission
-I spent $350 to get tethered for bearing arms w/o govt permission
-I had my $400+ pistol confiscated by that same government
-I was put on probation for bearing arms w/o govt permission

Some may say I shouldn't have been at a liquor store late at night in a bad area. But I am not sorry for anything I did. I am sorry that that I had to suffer because the government decided to infringe where they "shall not infringe". I am sorry that over $3000 went down the drain. If I knew then what I know now, I would've contacted every gun rights group I could and let them know my 2nd amendment rights were being **** on by our all powerful politicians in Lansing. Would they have done anything, I dont know. But I would've made them aware. I realize the importance of our 2nd amendment now, they are very important.
