1250 SIGs for FREE
A SIG P220 list on the manufacturer's website for a MSRP of $1068, but one savvy and experienced State Police agency just made a deal for 1250 of them for the low low price to the taxpayers it serves of: $0.00
The Connecticut State Police Deal

The Connecticut State Police (CSP), founded in 1903, is a division of the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection responsible for traffic regulation and law enforcement across the state of Connecticut, especially in areas not served by local police departments (about half of the state.) The CSP currently has more than 1600 employees but only approximately 1,200 sworn troopers in 12 troops and several special task forces across the state. For its first eighty years the CSP carried .38/.357 revolvers and were one of the first major law enforcement agencies in the country to switch to semi-auto pistols (the 9mm Beretta 92 in 1983). Since 1996 they have carried SIG-Sauer P226 semi-autos in .40S&W but that is about to change.

The Connecticut Post is reporting that the CSP is buying 1250 new SIG P220s for their troopers. The sweet deal for the 'stateys' is that they are getting them for $554 apiece and SIG is buying back their 1460 old and used but well-maintained P226s for an offsetting $364. When new holsters, magazine pouches, and other items are included and the final math is done, the state is having to shell out about $280,000 to transition from one platform to the other. This balance is paid for out of funds confiscated from seized drug money; in the end costing the taxpayers zip for more than $1.4 million worth of new hardware and duty gear.
The CSP special operations unit, the Directed Operations Group (DOG), has carried customized operator-style 1911s in .45ACP for years and it is unclear whether they will adopt the P220 as well. Even if they don't, the CSP will realize a simplification in ammunition supply regardless.
