Feinstein Wants Your Guns and Magazines

Senator Dianne Feinstein apparently has a lot of room in her closet, as she wants most of the things in the back of yours, to keep the country safe. She admits that she has been working on this bill for quite some time and in the time-honored political tradition of 'let no crisis go to waste' to enact their own personal legislation, plans to spend media capital from the recent mass shootings to put it in front of Congress in just a few days.

The following is a summary of her 2013 Assault Weapons Ban legislation:
  • Bans the sale, transfer, importation, or manufacturing of:
  • 120 specifically named firearms;
  • Certain other semiautomatic rifles, handguns, shotguns that can accept a detachable magazine and have one or more military characteristics; and
  • Semiautomatic rifles and handguns with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds.
  • Strengthens the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban and various state bans by:
  • Moving from a 2-characteristic test to a 1-characteristic test;
  • Eliminating the easy-to-remove bayonet mounts and flash suppressors from the characteristics test; and
  • Banning firearms with "thumbhole stocks" and "bullet buttons" to address attempts to "work around" prior bans.
  • Bans large-capacity ammunition feeding devices capable of accepting more than 10 rounds.
  • Requires that grandfathered weapons be registered under the National Firearms Act, to include:
  • Background check of owner and any transferee;
  • Type and serial number of the firearm;
  • Positive identification, including photograph and fingerprint;
  • Certification from local law enforcement of identity and that possession would not violate State or local law; and
  • Dedicated funding for ATF to implement registration.

Let's look at what this is asking for.

Besides banning 120 firearms by name (did they flip through the Shooter's Bible and make a list based on scariness?), the bill would ask that any semi-auto firearm (including pistols and shotguns) with either a detachable magazine or fixed magazine over ten shots and either a barrel-shroud, pistol grip, fore grip, threaded barrel, or thumbhole stock, be classified as an assault weapon.

Said assault weapon can no longer be sold to the public as it poses a threat to the country. This would make gun makers such as DPMS, Rock River, Bushmaster, Red Jacket, and others have to start making curtain rods or go out of business. Other larger manufacturers such as Remington, SIG, Smith and Wesson, and Ruger will see a drop in their product line as popular guns like the Ruger Mini-14, Smith and Wesson M15 series, SIG 556, and others are regulated out of existence. This will lead to layoffs in the already struggling industrial manufacturing sector and could put some companies out of the industry for good.

For the millions of guns out there already in circulation (did you have a chance to get one last week? If not, odds are they aren't left on the shelf waiting for you this week) there are a few hoops you have to jump through to be able to hang onto them. First, know that you now have something that is illegal if you do not register it under the amnesty. Second, start your paperwork that includes your Form 4, fingerprint cards, statement signed by your chief law enforcement officer, and $200 processing fee for your tax stamp. Third, wait for several months for it to all be processed. Repeat as needed for any of your newly banned weapons. If you neglect to do this for your AR, M-1 carbine, MAK-90, WASIR, Cetme, FAL, or other rifle, pistol, or shotgun that is now an assault weapon, you are looking at several years in federal prison down the line. If you have ten assault weapons that you want to keep, you are looking at about $2K in taxes you have to pay to the ATF, and getting fingerprinted ten times, photographed ten times, etc etc.

New magazines will have to be dated by the manufacturer to prove they were made after the bill's adoption and certified that they hold 10 or fewer rounds. This could mean that those current magazines you have that are not marked with a manufacturer's date would be made illegal.

Here we have another dreaded assault weapon as classified by Senator Feinstein's bill. While the Smith and Wesson made Walther P22 is a rimfire plinker and only has a 10-round magazine, that magazine is still detachable. This, coupled with the fact that the pistol has a threaded barrel, makes it an assault weapon that needs to be registered like a fully automatic machinegun. Be sure to double check all of your guns for these illegal traits that can trip you up and garner you some time in the slammer.

The evil Anschutz 1907, a 22LR target rifle used by competition shooters. Since it has a thumbhole stock, which is wicked in the eyes of Senator Feinstein, its owners would have to register it, pay a $200 tax stamp, and turn it in upon their death so that it could not fall into the wrong hands, should her legislation be signed into law.

If you don't agree with the good Senator, please contact your own congressional representatives and your president as soon as possible to let them know how you feel.

Remember, if this goes through in 2013, the Gun Control Act of 2014 may come for what's left. Followed by the Bow Control Act of 2015, the Sword Control Act of 2016, the Assault Powertool Act of 2017 (those drills can be dangerous), the Blunt Object Act of 2018...the list goes on and on...

I think that Sen. Feinstein if she gets her way all firearms will end up being baned. It looks like to me that she looks at a picture of a fireamr and just by the way it looks she thinks it should be ban. It does not make any sense to me. She needs to start doing some research and I mean a lot more research before she starts to say what firearms are to be band and what ones not to ban. Just my thoughts.

Money is the "mothers milk" of politics. I just sent Rand Paul's National Association for Gun Rights $25.00 to help fight against unconstitutional legislation that is targeting the 2ND Amendment.

I also extended my membership in the NRA an additional 2 years. I don't know of any other way to fight bad gun legislation. Complaining does nothing.

Wake up! The liberal left wants to ban guns and will use every excuse to do so. I would suggest thinking about getting active before we lose these rights.
